Mosquito Control Services from Groundhog Turf Care ensures that you have no uninvited guests at your backyard parties this summer!
Did you know mosquitoes are the deadliest animal on earth? More deaths are associated with mosquitoes than any other animal on the planet. Mosquitoes may carry any number of deadly diseases like Malaria, Yellow Fever, EEE, and West Nile Virus.
- Malaria kills 250,000 per year; most victims are children in Africa.
- The last Yellow Fever outbreak in the United States was in 1905.
- There were only 2,000 documented cases of Triple E and West Nile Virus in the U.S. in 2015.
- Only egg-laying females drink blood. Males don’t even have the anatomy to do so.
- Female mosquitoes only live up to three weeks.
So, we won’t try the “mosquito death scare” on you. It seems that we are pretty safe in New Hampshire. Given these facts, it seems unlikely you would even get bit. You can only conclude that there must be a lot of mosquitoes! There are – millions of them, within a mile of your house. Where we live, mosquitoes are mostly a nuisance pest – buzzing around your head, biting you and your guests when you’re trying to enjoy a fine summer evening.
What’s the best control against mosquitoes? Pheromone-based mosquito traps require maintenance and can actually attract mosquitoes into your yard. Ultrasonic devices have been proven in over 10 scientific studies not to work at all against mosquitoes. Backyard studies also show only 0.13% of the insects killed in a bug zapper are female mosquitoes. It seems that mosquitoes are more attracted to you than these devices!
Cultural practices work. Yellow lights and citronella candles do not repel mosquitoes; however, they are not attracted by them. Eliminate all standing water in your yard – even an upside-down Frisbee can be home to thousands of mosquito larvae. If you have standing water issues, call Groundhog Landscaping to regrade or install drainage to mitigate the wet areas.
Call Groundhog Turf Care! Our Tick and Mosquito program utilizes a pyrethrin-based control that knocks down mosquito populations and sets up a perimeter of protection. Our technicians will visit six times per year, targeting those areas where mosquitoes rest and nest. So you can enjoy your evenings again!
