Less Is Better. The landscape management programs from Groundhog Turf Care are designed to improve the health and vigor of your lawn and shrubs, while creating a pest-free landscape that requires less maintenance each year. Each one of our programs targets the problem areas in a systematic way. We apply the principles of Plant Health Care (PHC) to effectively reduce the landscape’s dependency on chemical controls:
- Slow-release lawn fertilizers with essential micronutrients require less applications than lawn care companies who use cheaper fertilizers;
- High-pressure sprayers apply our Tick and Mosquito product – which gives us better control than backpack foggers to target nesting areas without the over-spray risk that harms pollinators;
- Extended release grub control hits grubs at the two most-vulnerable stages;
- Selective pruning opens up plants to airflow and rejuvenates new growth;
- Cultural practices like fall lawn renovation and overseeding makes a healthier lawn that is more resistant to disease and pests.
While our landscape management programs are not organic, we do see a reduction in the amount of chemical needed to control many landscape problems as a result of implementing these best practices.

Bed Weed Control
Groundhog Turf Care offers more than just lawn services—we also enhance the beauty of your planting beds. Let us handle the work so you can relax and enjoy your summer. Our bed weed control program consists of 5 visits to your property over a period of 6 months.
Weed Control Applications
April – A pre-emergent barrier in early spring to prevent germination from any seeds that may have blown in the planting bed from last fall. This first application should knock down most of any weeds that may occur in a well-maintained planting bed.
May – A post-emergent weed control is applied to kill any overwintering perennial weeds.
June – A second application of post-emergent weed control. This spray kills any new weeds encroaching in on beds, patios, and walkways
July – A third application at the end of summer cleans up any late-germinating weeds that may have popped up over the hot, dry summer.
August – This is the final spray of the year that will keep your beds, walkways, and patio clear of weeds for the remainder of the year.
Lawn Aeration and Overseeding
Also known as our “Fall Fix-Up” services, lawn aeration and overseeding revives summer-stressed lawns by allowing aerobic bacteria to break down the thatch layer and water to percolate down to the roots. Overseeding introduces new grass to the composition of the turf, making it more resistant to disease.
Lawn aeration and overseeding is offered à la carte or as part of our Estate Lawn Care Program. We only perform this service in September and October.
Slice Seeding
Slice seeding is a way to re-plant a lawn that has been heavily damaged by insects or drought, without having to rip it up and start over. Our slice-seeder cuts a groove in the soil, then drops a seed at the perfect depth and spacing. Assuming proper watering, slice seeding has over a 90% germination rate.
As with our Fall Fix-Up service, we provide slice seeding from August 30 – October 1.
Pruning Services
Contour pruning enhances the shape and health of ornamental landscape plants up to 10 feet tall by removing dead, damaged, or overgrown branches. This service promotes better airflow, maintains natural form, and prepares plants for winter dormancy.
Pruning Services are offered à la carte or as part of our Tree and Shrub Care Program. We perform this service in mid to late fall.
Deep Root Fertilization
Deep root fertilization delivers essential nutrients directly to the root zone of ornamental trees and shrubs, promoting vigorous growth, improved resistance to stress, and overall plant health. This method ensures nutrients bypass the turf layer and reach where they’re needed most, encouraging strong root development and lush foliage.
Deep root fertilization is offered à la carte or as part of our Tree and Shrub Care Program. We perform this service in early spring or fall.
Fall Leaf Cleanups
We offer Fall Leaf Cleanup services to support the health and appearance of your lawn, as removing fallen leaves is essential for proper turf care. Cleanups are typically scheduled between October 1 and November 30, following the completion of our regular lawn care applications.
